METSOVO

Metsovo, the jewel of Epirus is a mountain town, built on the ruins of the ancient city Tymfi at an altitude of 1,160m. A traditional settlement, it is located at the eastern end of the prefecture on the northern slopes, between the mountains of the largest mountain range in Greece, Pindos.

The Monastery of Agios Nikolaos, built in the southwest of Metsovo, near the bank of the Metsovitikos river, was one of the most important monasteries in the region. Its current form is due to the restoration work carried out around 1960, by the Baron Michael Tosista Foundation.

The main street of Metsovo Square leads to the Averofian Garden. It is a beautiful park filled with trees and plants that make up the entire flora of Pindos. Inside, very well preserved, is the restored chapel of Agios Georgios.
